I need my ficm re-flashed, as a common thing with the 6.0 I was wondering what is the best thing to do. Let Ford take it out and deal with it or take it out myself and send it to get fix by someone other than Ford? I was also wondering how long it took the get it back, as my only work truck I can not afford letting the truck just sit. Thanks happy holidays.....
First question - why do you need it flashed? What is it doing or not doing that leads you to that thought? There are different flashes for the FICM, but it is not very likely a NEED to do thing.
If it needs repair, which I am guessing is the real issue, then you will either need to be down for a few days while you send it out, or you will need to buy a spare rebuilt. I can recommend FICM Repair.com - Your Source for FICM Repair for repairing yours. If you want a rebuilt to swap out, I suggest any of the eBay sellers.
oh snap, you're right. Rebuilt not flashed.......thanks for the advice. I'm not getting 48 volts when running and it turns over for eight to ten seconds before it fires up, runs smooth and starts normal after it's warm.
I think Ford is getting around $1,000 to replace a FICM, so if you can do it yourself you can save some green. It's a stiff job the first time you pull one, but the second time I had it out and back in in less than an hour. And that included draining some coolant which is not absolutely necessary.
Be careful where you buy and ask questions. On the cheap end you will find a seller who just touches up the solder joints and resells them. What you want IMO is someone who will test the components, replace as necessary, and apply the correct flash (latest or custom).
I don't think I need to tell anyone what an eBay seller warranty is worth.
What readings are you getting, specifically? 48 is normal while cranking and running, but it's not generally considered to be an issue unless it's less than 45. I would hate to see you have it 'fixed' and then find out that it's not really the issue.
