Cheap PSD Update

Hey guys,

I posted a while back about a 2000 F350 that I found for $3k. The overwhelming opinion here and in the 99-03 PSD section was to buy it quick. Well I did and I've been in the process of whipping it back into shape. I sold my '94 IDIT, for quite a bit more than I paid for it, to buy the F350 and do some of the repairs on it. Apparently the previous owner was an idiot and treated it pretty rough. The ZF6 was grinding when shifting gears so I put a new clutch kit, master cylinder and slave cylinder in it. It helped alot but didn't completely cure the grinding so I think my synchros are about shot, probably looking at a rebuild in the near future. The engine seems to be doing pretty good so far and knock on wood, I haven't needed to do anything to it other than the normal maintenance stuff to it. The power difference between it and my IDI's is HUGE! I had no idea there would be that much difference. One bad thing though is that when I open the hood of my IDI I get a warm fuzzy feeling cause I know what makes it tick and what to look for if it stops ticking! When I open the hood of the PSD I get an overwhelming feeling of helplessness! LOL. I'm still learning what makes these beasts tick and that's why I've spent most of my time in the 99-03 section lately.

I'm gonna take a break from it this weekend though and give the'93 IDI that I still have some TLC. I installed a Rough Country leveling kit on it last week. This weekend I'll be installing an Optishift controller on it and pulling the radiatior to have a small leak fixed. Then I'll be ordering some new BB injectors and a return line kit for it. The leveling kit made a big difference and I really like the way it looks. If that truck was a crew cab I wouldn't have given the PSD a second look! LOL . I'll post up some pics of the '93 after I get this stuff done this coming week. Thanks again guys for all of the advise and info that I've gotten here.

Chuck

you should try out the 6.4l sometime if you think that 3rd gen 7.3l goes ok.

The 7.3 PSD's aren't too bad. The main difference is the HEUI system. They have unit injectors that operate off oil pressure so make sure to stick to the right intervals for oil changes. Other than that it's just another diesel lol.
