This past Saturday I lost my Diesel "virginity" and am now the proud owner of a beautiful '94 F-350 CrewCab.
Right now I am in blissful ignorance and all I really know is that when I jump into it and fire it up, I can't help grinnin from ear to ear.
I found this site last night and stayed up reading posts until my eyes started bleeding.
I now understand that what I have under the hood is actually a 7.3L IDI Turbo and that somehow makes me a second hand citizen in the eyes of some PSD people.
Frankly, that hasn't wiped this silly grin off my face.
I'm sure that will probably change as problems start to arise.
I hope when that happens I can lean on some of you for support.
In the mean time, I'll just read on and try to learn the lingo.
Any advice on how I can better understand my new ride and what kind of TLC it should receive would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, my wife and kids think the only reason I bought the truck was to haul them and their horses. (HAH!)
first off let me say congrats on your new truck and welcome to the group,,also,I,just as you have that same grin as you everytime i get behind the wheel. For me there is no other truck than a ford and when you add the rattle with it its just that much better,as far as the psd goes,,,dont get me wrong i love the psd but im just as happy with my 7.3 idi as i am with my work truck that has the psd,,as far as taken care of your truck goes you will get alot of info here,,i have learned things i never knew from a few people on here and they will lead you in the right direction((thanks dave))) well on that note good luck and keep us posted on how things work out with you new found love!!!
I guess the first order of business (after a good wax job) will be the routine maintenance stuff.
Any suggestions on oils, filters, etc.
It has a Valvoline sticker inside the door (15w-40w) with due mileage that is coming up.
Also a sticker on the fuel filter showing it was changed about 20K miles ago.
Looks like the previous owner tried to be good about the routine stuff.
I just run down to the local auto parts to get oil for the wifes Explorer.
But I don't want to get the wrong stuff for the 7.3.
I'd like to keep it young at heart.
Welcome aboard ! and congrats on your purchase. Just take your time and get to know your ride. Dont just jump in and hit the start, let the glow plugs do their thing on cold starts, and dont pull in somewhere after working the truck and shut it off --- let it cool down a bit and equalize itself. Keep up the maintainance schedule using a diesel oil and good filters. Everyone has their own thoughts on this and will certainly chime in. Good luck! Bill
