Halaferd the ZF6 is not even close to a bolt on upgrade, but it is doable, If I remember the bellhousing has two holes that you have to build an adapter for(not a big problem) then you can either have the input and output shaft turned down and resplined, Not too mant machine shops do this, but there used to be one in oregon that would, and probably others. If you have a two wheel drive, you can skip the output shaft. There is no provision for a speedo on the ZF6 or the tcase that fits it, but your tcase will work if the shaft is turned down.
there has also been some that have redrilled a singlemass flywheel and used the bigger clutch, instead of having the shaft turned.
Like I said, it is possible, but it isn't an easy afternoon swap.
Well I've got about a year and a half todo it but the truck realy isn't worth that kind of effort. I think I'll just hope to come across a salvage truck w the zf5 haha maybe I can handle that swap
well my zf 5 is a diesel. and go ahead and snipe lol. got a tried and true setup: pilot bushing from a 7.3 dmf, 6.9 smf, 89 f250 460 clutch and throwout bearing to zf 5. ive seen this in 4 daily drivers and the tiltbed from hell. what i dont know; will the auto cross member need moved forward for a manual? is there a crossmember where the tranny bolts to the engine? should i use the hydro clutch or make a mechanical/cable? should i rebuild the zf 5? how intense is installing the 1 ton ebrake assembly? is a hydrualic pto worth the install? will removing the transmission control module effect my speedo, cruise control, tach, odometer, etc.(93 f250 xlt)? any suggestions on clutch brand? will the clutch pedal slide onto the automatic pedal assy? is there any advantage to the carrier bearing on the drive shaft? is there a better pilot bushing out there maybe an actual bearing? any recomendations?
I am pretty sure the ZF5 crossmember and the auto one are different.
I would say yes on the carrier bearing.
The hydro clutch would be the easiest to use, by far.
I would think if you had everything for the driveline ebrake, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.
On the pto and hydraulic pump, I guess it depends on what use you have for it, I wouldn't hang it on there If I didn't need it.
I can't answer on the brake pedals, I know you could swap them around the assembly in the 70's ford, but have never tried on these models.
well ill look around but i have the 70's assembly ill have to find the 90's not that im lazy but i like cheap and i like fabrication. i still got six months before i can insure it again. more fab the better. correct me if im wrong but the f53 chassis is the super heavy duty chassis right?
well i found wat seems like a good rebuild kit for the zf 5 and the luk clutch kit and ill still b under $1000. any advice on the rebuild im lookin for tips and expectations?
