Hello! I was just wondering if there was any people on here that are astronomers. I am I work for texas tech I've been one for a little over 7 years now. I have a Meade 8 Star Finder.
Just wondering thats all if your from Texas who knows I might have meet you at the Texas star party..
I love to star gaze and use my refractor whenever I can. The last year has been poor for viewing ( a one year old). But hopefully that will start changing soon.
What do you like to look at?
I still enjoy the moon, Sun, Jupiter and Saturn. A few red giants and clusters are also nice to look at.
Hello ultramagdan.. If you really like astro stuff you should look for a club near you. I'm a Galaxy hunter. But I also love clusters, UFO's (Unidentified Fuzzy Object) ,Nebulas It's fun to look for NGC's IC's. Have you seen the new meade Lx200 GPS Wow now thats a awesome Scope Where you from i'm from texas?
I took Astronomy in College and loved it. The University of Alabama has a nice telescope and I remember the first time I looked through it. Crystal clear night, dead of winter, Waxing Gibbous moon. My jaw dropped. I would have bet I could have seen somebody up there waving back at me!
I now have the basic Walmart $100 telescope but have seen some nice stuff with it. Saturn, a few galaxies, but Jupiter with all its moons really was cool.
Maybe someday I'll invest in a nice model with the tracking gimbal set-up, I get tired of chasing stuff......
The town I live in is small enough I haven't heard of a club. I'm sure if I lived in Topeka or Wichita that I could hook up with some clubs and see some really cool scopes. But for now my Orion "4.5 refractor works pretty well. Some of the bigger scopes are pretty neat, but I'm glad I'm not the one who has to store them.
I have thought about putting a motor on mine but unless you do a lot of deep space stuff, I haven't found the need. Instead of a motor I want a platform that doesn't move at all! No wind or wiggles.
Well you should like this very well... This august Mars will be more visable than Jupiter, it has not been this close to earth in 77.000 years. It will not look huge but you'll look up and say "Holy SH%T"
In the light magnatude it will be like -3.6... "The lower the number the better"
They also have said that when mars is close to earth the ufo sightings increase 70 to 80 %, and now closest in 77.000 years "Oh boy, sign's"
Anyway I thought you all would like to hear of this....
