What kind of stuff do all you "improvisers" carry around in your truck? I know I cant cary every tool or part I need so i keep the essentials with me:
duct tape: need I say more? good ol' Colorado Chrome
bailing wire: for the hot parts
bungees: gotta keep them body panels secured somehow
ether: kills bugs, sets a bead on tires, starts a decent fire , too
a big hammer: get the heaviest one you can dig up
channel locks: why bring all my wrenches with me?
fence pliers: nothin says "Desperado" like these babies
Gerber multi tool: screwdriver replacement
chain: You can make good dough pullin people outa ditches in the winter. I do it as a general courtesy, but some people will practically shove a $20 down you throat, or a case of beer if they know you good.
I once broke a U-joint and had to manufacture one from a lot of bailing wire and an entire roll of duct tape i limped 5 miles home and the dang thing held! I even pushed my luck and drove it another 5 to work the next day, where there were proper parts a-plenty and real tools. Anybody else got a redneck toolbox?

i have a concerned mother and grandmother. for christmas, from my grandmother, i got a 75 pc set of crafstman tools, includes six wrenches, lots of sockets, 1/4 and 3/8 in wratchets, screwdriver iwth bits and 3 extensions. my mom got me 2 rolls of red rags, 2 rolls of blue towels, and a plastic non locking toolbox better suited for her leather working tools than automotive stuff. i have a metal toolbox from my dad (i had to buy the lock) with 1/2 and 3/8 wratchets, sockets of all sized that were my grandad's (mostly electricians tools) and tons of allan wrenches. ball peen hammer, breakover handle, coupla 3/8 extensions, oil filter wrench and who knows what all else. the duct tape got lost in the 85 and haven't been able to relieve my family of another roll of theirs yet but i've got more than enough bailing wire for the next century i think becuz we have 4 horses and they eat plenty of hay! I have bailing twine (from the large round bails) that works great for those overflow buckets or seat covers that are stubborn. shoestring for when the horn falls off but no wd 40 though i've asked multiple times for some. i have a floor jack, traded dad the bumper jack for it, and a can of fix a flat and brake fluid and power steering fluid, quart of oil, gallon of 50/50 water/antifreeze and about a foot of gasoline hose and vaccuum hose. booster cables, droplight that runs off the battery, flashlight, and a 2ft long ice scraper with snow brush. i live in tx...go figure! i think that's about it ... hmmm....
Hmm...you guys seem to have it covered...one exception here in the north - I carry a hockey puck - cause you never know when a game will break out and no one ever seems to have a puck!
(Yes, I do carry an assortment of tools including Duct tape, Electrical tape, siphon hose, fencing wire, a BIG flat screw driver, needle nose pliers and extra fluids!)
I have a few hockey pucks only I carry them in the Jeep they are the body mounts. Do you think the NHL will let us use a puck with a CJ-5 attached to it LOL
Socket sets, both metric and standard. Wrenches, both metric and standard. I thought my vehicle was "standard" until I found out I needed a 10mm wrench to bleed the brakes. Hm. I doubt very much I will ever use the 22mm one.
All kinds of screw drivers, a hammer and oil filter wrench. Most of the tools in there never get used.
