Was sitting at the local boat landing in Maine last summer when a big Texan dude with the hat and the belt buckle saunters up to me and looks out over the lake. He asks me where I'm from and I respond "Well, I grew up on a big farm just down the road..." The Texan dude just laughs and says "Big farm, huh?!?"
I'm feeling sheepish now, knowing that some ranches in Texas are probably bigger than the State of Maine.
He continues with a grin "Son, let me tell you about how my farm is....I got a farm so big, I can get in my pick up truck and drive all day-long and still not get to the other side of my property!!!"
I thought on this for a second, and then replied "Yep...I got truck just like that...."

"Ford is the best in Texas!" Must be only one reason, they keep pulling the Chev's into the shops.
Yes, I live in Texas. And my Brother (I love him, but where did we go wrong) drives a Chxxx! And he will always drive Chxxx's, therefore he is getting really good at fixing them!
But who does he call when he needs to go get parts for his Chxxx? Me, and my Ford! I love it.

Texas eh? I have been there to visit and never want to go back again. It was in april and I feared I was going to melt in the heat. I cannot even imagine what your summers must be like. I sat in the car in the driveway at my relatives house with the AC blowing on me, bracing myself for the 20 ft walk to the ACed house, fearing death on the short walk. How do you manage to live there? I will do my best in the future to stay above the 45th parallel at all times. Upper Penninsula Michigan is just about right for me. DF
Yep, it gets hot alright! I am building a new home in Conroe, near the lake and when I retire I will build a summer home in Colorado. That way I will live in Colorado in the summer and Texas the rest of the time.
Yeah it does get a little warm down here. Of course we could ask you how can you stand that much cold air? I spent 1 week at Twenty Nine Palms MCAGCC (Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center) and you want to talk hot? Try 112 by 11 am! That's hot, but we toughed it out, even though we were wearing full military uniforms. And we were all High School kids!

Used to haunt the permian basin of far west Texas/SE New Mex back during the oilfield boom of '81-82. Love that part of the country, could spend all day telling some great oilfield/boomtown stories. Anyone else on here that was out there then??
Reference your "There is an old saying... " the sun has riz' and the sun has set, but here we is in Texas yet!" " ....
--Ya' know, this may have referred to the fact that they were going in circles!!
There are places in Texas that are so hot ... that lizards run into the campfire just to get in the shade of the frying pan.:-)

Well... I have driven east to west through this great state at speeds in excess of 70 mph, while in my Mercury and once in my Toyota (the wife's). Also, in 1966, I rode in a '63 Chevy Carryall from Houston to El Paso on a hunting trip at speeds in excess of 70 and all of those trips took over 14 hours! Yes, this is a big state.
Just pullin' yer chain. It IS a big state. I drove an 81 Fairmont from San Francisco to Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico (worked for USDA at the time) and part of the trip was thru Texas (I had to go thru Laredo for business purposes). While I only drove part of it, I can attest: its a BIG state.
Actually I was born in Raymondville, TX -- but it didn't take :-), my parents moved to CA. Actually two of my three best friends are Texans.
Texans have reason to brag; vast majority are right nice folks.
