Transmission Lines

Hey guys. I just added another truck to my arsenal. It's a 1987 f250 single cab with a 460 and automatic. It came with a 7.5' meyer plow as well. The truck needs some work. The first thing I am tackling is the transmission lines. One had a hole rusted in it. The other has been spliced many times with copper tubing. I am throwing is all away and starting fresh. I am throwing it all away and starting fresh. I will be replacing the lines from the transmission to the radiator and also the radiator to the cooler.

First of all, what size are the cooler lines? I have searched the web and see the majority say they are 3/8 but have seen some say 5/16. They look like 3/8 to me.

Do I need to get different fittings for can I use the ones that come on the lines?

I am going to measure everything roughly tonight but if anyone has done his before this question is for them. Should I buy a 25ft roll of tubing or buy it in pieces?
Thank you very much.

When I did mine I used 5/16 painted steel line's, and the ends on them were ok, c6...I bought pieces and have an extra piece here, with the size tag still on it.

Thank you Slip. Do you think the lines on the 460 C6 would be bigger like 3/8?

Mine is 460 C6...I think the use of 3/8 lines would require reducers at the c6 ports, and so would not make sense.

Ok wasn't sure if you were referring to the 302/ aod in your signature.

As far as the routing goes; line from transmission to auxiliary cooler, from cooler to radiator and from the radiator back to the transmission. Is this correct? Can;t find a diagram on it so far.

Thanks again

Yep, here's a diagram and is also a good option for you, if you do not want to make the many bend's and purchase a bender. LMC Truck Parts - Page 115 ..edit...oops, no 460
