I have the opportunity to pick up a 77 f250 4x4 xlt with a 400 auto vin is F26srz08398 its bagged as an xlt but the dealer told me it was a 460 and I found that to be false info.
is there any way to know for sure if this truck is really an xlt model or if they just stuck the badges on the cowl. I'm skeptical because the xlt emblem is not present on the grill. any help would be appreciated before i pony up the cash
My XLT doesn't have air, tilt, or cruise. Of course its a ranger XLT. Most XLT's had the auto and the nice trim package. Tilt, air and cruise are options.
the truck in question is a ranger xlt by the badges on the cowl and has factory a/c but again no badge on the grill center bar, Did xlt f250's come without the grill badge in 77?
I have a 77 F-250 4x4 XLT, early model (highboy) with a divorced t-case and a C-6. It came with a 400 but we installed a 460 in it when it had only 4000 miles on it. There are badges on the cowl and one on the glove box. It also has the chrome trim around the glove box and a/c outlets. The door panels have the extra chrome trim and chome grill work on the bottom. The headliner has chrome bezels around it with a vinyl headliner. The body has the racetrack trim on it. The tailgate has the extra chome pieces on it also, with chrome bezels around the taillights. This truck has about 130,000 miles on it and is stored inside. There is no rust and there are no dents.
Thanks for all the help on this I never looked at the glove box. The interior is pretty much in need of total resto. I know the xlt had the extra chrome/black trim panel above the f-o-r-d on the tailgate and the truck I'm looking at does have that. the interior trim like the crome around the headliner and the taillights came with the ranger pakage I have it on my F150 4x4 witch is also a 77
Hey thats pretty cool, Is that from the brochure, I did notice the funky feel of the "super soft vinyl" or plether as i like to call it, I think girls are wearing pants made out of it nowadays. anyway looks like we may have the genuine artical here folks. If I get it i'll be shur to post pics of the resto effort wich is sure to be a long one, some times the term "all original" means that the previos owner didn't bother with maintinance. If the engine oil and coolant turn out to ba as "original" as the interior and the brakes I may be looking for a block to swap in. I liked the Idea of the 460 install I'll definatly keep that in mind
My '76 XLT Supercab Trailer Special has no air, cruise, or tilt. But, it does have all the nice chrome exterior trims, top and bottom, 'Ranger XLT' badges on the box as well, full tailgate chrome, XLT on the glove box, NO XLT insignia on the grille center bar, and it has little 'extras' inside, like more detailed door panels with chrome trim and map pockets.
My '78 is a Ranger Explorer, and it has all the same chrome, plus the chrome beading that follows the wheel openings, Explorer hood ornament, full tailgate trim, rear cargo light, stainless box rails (Ford), roof lights, chrome grille and chrome square headlight doors. Woodgrain dash, nice interior color combo (fairly rare)... No air, no cruise, and no tilt. Just business.
