Hi i have a 1989 California ford ranger with the 2.9 but that engine is out of a 1988 Bronco 2 aslo a California emissions vehicle and i was wondering would the engine from the bronco have MAF and did the 1989 ranger have MAF. also how would i determine which system it uses? Few Fords used speed density. If your setup has a sensor in the intake near the air box, you have a MAF setup. Speed density uses a MAP sensor, which uses a vacuum source for reference.

Okay i see well there is a sensor where the intake hose connects to the intake, but not near the air box. So if im right it is speed density?
Please post a picture of what you are seeing. It would be very unlikely that a CA vehicle would use speed density, MAf was usually preferred where strict emissions are important.
Ok, that is a speed density setup, no MAF sensor to be seen. The MAP sensor is likely behind something or just out of frame. Fairly clean looking motor, cobwebs aside. The donor vehicle would likely have the same setup, but since they are the same motor, if you encounter anything that is a little different, I'm sure you can swap parts.
