I was just given a ford f350 with a v-10. It has sat for 1.5 years. Got it running (fuel pump) But runs so so. Other then change the oil what else should i do? I think its a skip in the motor. thanks
I would go ahead and change ALL fluids, not just the oil.
Change spark plugs, also check the coils and boots (one coil and boot on top of each spark plug) as these are a relatively common failure on these engines.
Drive it and get all that old gas out of the system, change the fuel filter, and run a good injector cleaner through it. (Techron seems to be highly recommended)
Is the check engine light on? Check for codes even if it's not on as there could be stored codes.
Also check for vacuum leaks, especially if you have the Electronic Shift on the Fly (ESOF) 4 wheel drive system. If it has a switch on the dash for 4WD, you have ESOF. If it has a lever on the floor, you have the manual 4WD system. With ESOF, the hub locks are vacuum controlled and those vacuum lines like to break.
no check engine light. what do u look for on the coil boot??
Cracks, splits, anywhere it could be grounding to the head. It's actually just easier to replace them when you change the plugs, they're only about 3 or 4 bucks a piece. Cheap insurance.
Clean your throttle body and MAF while you're at it.
Depends what conditions the truck was kept on.
I restarted a diesel motorhome that was parked under California oak for 7 years and all I had to do is bring fresh batteries and pump the tires.
2 years old gasoline in pressurized tank should be good, but it is possible that condensation water is present in the tank. I would drain the tank and put fresh gas to start with. Drive with spare fuel filters in the truck for a year to come.
