I have a 302 out of a '65 Galaxie in my '51 F1. The other day when I took off, she started running like hell. I did a compression test and this is what I found:
Oil pressure is fine, no excessive smoke or steam (ie. blown head gasket)
At idle she will not run smoothly, the rpm's tend to go up and down making timmimg difficult.
She'll run, but under excelleration she sounds like hell.
Any ideas on diagnoses would be appreciated.
Thanks-
Looks to me like the gasket is blown between 3 and 4. if the gasket is blown right at the narrow point between the 2 cylinders, I don't think you see any systoms in the antifreeze or the oil.
Good point, Macguyver, thanks. One question, though.......I need to make sure the cylinder I'm hooking up to is at TDC, right? Any tips on the best way to do this?
???? I wonder if my 302 is the same year as my truck???? How can I tell? I know I have to get the numbers, but where are they and who do I tell them to, so they can tell me what year it is?
OK....sure enough, she's a 289. And thankfully I found a 1/8" gap in the gasket between 3 & 4 when I pulled the head. Glad that's all it was. Heads will be done monday. Thanks for the help, y'all.
