...alright the answer to my question is.... NOOOO, after spending the day figuring and figuring you must take the whole column apart. Key note in this model in order to pull the shaft out of the housing you must disconnect the bottom wiring harness for the ignition, then unbolt the white box it plugs into it...why because well you'll find out if you must change the bearings (there are in fact three upper bearings 2 small (same size but slightly different bearings) and 1 larger bearing. If anybody reading this has to change bearings for the 92' model F350 by all means MESSAGE me and i'll help you if you need it

...with that said swapping in new bearings did not fix my steering play, more diagnosing to do i guess

But why take the steering wheel off? is it the SW itself that has play? then yes, you need to get to that bearing (seems you already did), there is also a little u-joint down there in the column, you should inspect it. But my guess is the issue is in the steering box.

most certainly could be...some people who have posted said they had similar play in the wheel and it was caused by bad bearings, that was definately not the case for me, I am planning on replacing the tie rods and I might also have to change out the gear box, I have never replaced a steering gear box have you? if you have any advice or helpful tips

look into getting a redhead gear box. ive heard to many folks by a new box from an autoparts store with the same sloppy issues that the current box has. Tierods, balljoint will all play a roll in bad steering. take care of those issues first before proceeding further
