I would own one if I could build it properly. It would fit my long distance trail riding, and utility purposes great.
Guess a guy could always make something up so it would start in the coldest weather. Propane heater tied into the cooling system maybe. We had diesel rigs in northern alberta that had similar systems so it would work. Keeping it light would be the trick there though!
I think the hp/lb ratio would always be a struggle with a diesel in a sled, similar to the problem with a 4-stroke. The only way to get 2-stroke-ish power in a 4-stroke sled is to turbo it, or up the displacement, both adding weight and cost. Put the same $$$ into a two stroke and I think you could make it as long lasting as a 4-stroke, but with way more power. I'll keep my oil burner for a while yet
