Dual Mass or Injector Question

My truck has a stutter sometimes near engine idle speeds, but only when warm. If I push the clutch in and the RPM's drop to 650, it will stutter for a second or 2, then smooth out.

I have new injectors I'm installing shortly (though I have already done O-rings), and I'm hoping this fixes it. I also have a T-500 on the way, and a new IPR to install.

My question is, could it be the DMF? The truck does it with the clutch engaged or not, and as soon as you apply throttle the problem goes away.

I wouldn't think a loose or failed DMF would shutter with load on it (clutch engaged), but maybe??

No manual trans guy here, but pull the inspection cover and take a look, may be able to see something..

If the center bearing on the DMF is crapping out it can vibrate if the clutch is engauged or not. Another clue the DMF is bad is getting a "rattle" when shutting down the engine.

X2 on this. I am replacing my clutch this weekend due to the DMF and slippage. My truck does exactly what you describe. Feels like iit s going to stall at idle then "rights" itself after some shuddering or me reving it a little. Then when I shut it down it shakes roughly. DMF is most likely the problem since your injectors are new.

DMF's are dangerous when they start to go out, There is no real good way to tell unless you have bearings falling out of the inspection cover.

Best to just replace it and be done with the hastle of that ticking time bomb.

BigRed, did you replace your clutch, and did it help? Which clutch did you end up going with?

I got everything put back together about 7pm last night. I drove about 5 miles just to make sure everything worked. I can tell you when I shut it off it was super smooth and quick so I know the DMF was causing that issue. I had not issues with it shaking at idle like it did before but won't be sure until i put some miles on it this week. I can tell you that the gear rollover noise is PRONOUNCED! It makes me think something is wrong, but I have read that it is normal. Very loud at idle in nuetral and when lugging around in 4th gear at 30mph. Clutch has a different feel for sure. I will have to get used to the lighter release etc. Did I mention gear noise! LOL I guess that's the trade off for a dependable set up with performance ability. I went with the Valair ceramic/kevlar.

What was that? Sorry, couldn't hear you.....

Either the noise will subside a little as the clutch wears in, or you get used to it. I notice it now and then, but not like when we first got it done. I honestly don't know if that's the thing settling down over time, or us just not noticing it anymore. Still preferable to the sound of us biting our nails every time we heard that dumb-mass shudder on shutdown.
