anyone had problems with engine run-on. i'm having problems with run-on after engine is turned off and a bad smell after this occurs, from excess fuel burning i would think. the timing seems to be right and it seems to only happen after it gets hot. is there any solution. I'm not to mechanical minded but willing to have a go. sorry its a 351 cleveland with new holley carb, but was doing it with old thermoquad.
thanks for replies, i set the timing to 6 degrees before top dead centre with auto in neutral with vacum line to elect dizzy off carb with a timing light. i think idle speed sits around 750 but it fluctuates on this. it it hard to start when hot only sometimes which i think is starter motor problem as i can tap the starter and she fires. just have to invest in new one. i will have a look at idle speed when i get a chance. does the vacum unit on the dizzy need replacing. i have just bought a new manifold for it so i will pull all this gear out soon. migh buy a new dizzy and coil while i am at it.
750 is a bit high. If you have to keep it turned up that much to prevent it dying in gear, then you need to turn the key off while still in gear, then place into park.
As I think greyf100 is implying, your vacuum should be hooked to ported vacuum. IOW, it should only get vacuum when you open the throttle but not at idle.
