fuel leak

Hey guys I just picked up a 95 powerstroke and I started smelling diesel. After looking around there is a puddle of diesel on the back of the valley pan. Any idea of where it could be leaking? I was thinkin the back of the fuel pump? Thanks for the help

Fuel pump could be shot, Banjo Bolt (on the back of the fuel pump) could be loose, hoses could be cracked and leaking, or it could be that the fuel bowl needs new o-rings.

Try tightening the banjo bolt first (you'll need a 1 1/4" combination wrench).

Then I would look at the fuel pump if that doesn't do it. There is a weep hole in the bottom of the pump that seeps fuel when the pump is about worn out. You have to stand on your head with a mirror to see it though.

Yeah, I just replaced my hoses with some stock hose I got from our local NAPA. Make sure it is SAE 30R9 rated hose. That is a higher pressure rated, diesel safe hose. They may call it "Fuel injection" hose. I also picked up a couple packs of fuel injection style hose clamps and used those too. They don't cut the hose like a typical worm style hose clamp does. All told, I think I had less than $20 in the hoses and clamps and had hose left over when I was done. I got a foot of each size (3/8" and 5/16") and was able to replace everything including the fuel drain hose and still have some left over for next time.

My first think is the fuel pump and the fuel is going back to the banjo bolt, but who knows, start with the banjo bolt. The weep hole its in the passenger side of the fuel pump. other sources of leaks are the fuel restriction sensor in the drivers side of the fuel bowl and the fuel bowl itself (o-rings or corrosion in the bottom).
Good luck.

I have the same issue but I don't know where this bowl is you guys are talking about. My 90 had a threaded bowl under the filter but my 95 just has the screw in filter with the threaded cap. Where is the bowl on the 95?

The "fuel bowl" people refer to is the fuel filter housing between the HPOP and the Turbo.

Ohhhh, ok. So my 95 doesn't have that water separator bowl or whatever it was, under the filter like the old one did?
