Missing when cold

With the lower temps here I have a small issue that has poppped up. When I start my truck in the morning if I just let it idle its fine. If I use my high idle tune or my AIC to bump up the idle speed, it sounds like its missing and shakes. No codes, I haven't had time to do a CCT or anything else. I haven't retorqued my injectors since installing them roughly 3k ago so I might try that. Any other suggestions?

First thing that pops to mind is compression. That's what makes the heat. I've got a glow plug adapter you're welcome to borrow if you can find a guage.

Thick Oil when cold?
Does it do it with block heater plugged in?

I might be able to find one. My biggest concern is that since the motor hydro'd when I put the injectors in something got FUBAR'ed.

I haven't plugged in yet. Running Delo 15w40.

How did you hydro lock the motor ? just curious and I would like to add that my truck has had this same Issue since I have owned it I now have a bad Injector that is leaking Internally do you notice a power loss when the trucks oil gets up to temp?

I set my AIC at 1350rpm and that seems to smooth out the high Idle but anything under that and it seems to miss except Idle

How bad is the miss and shake? If you drive it cold, does the miss get worse? Low on power? No miss at all when warm? Have you checked blowby? Hydrolocking the motor can be bad, so we'll keep our fingers crossed.

Where did you get the injectors from? There's always a chance that one or two are not firing when cold. Maybe pull the valve covers and watch for oil discharge or leaks at the injectors when you start it cold.

Not torquing down the injectors in 3,000 miles shouldn't make it idle rough unless you used bubble gum for injector o-rings. I don't remember you getting new injectors. Did you upgrade? Did you get your tunes re-burned for the new injectors?

I don't mean to be a smart *** but after 80K do you think its time I retorqued my injectors? What I'm doing now is showing my ignorance, didn't know you had to retorqued them?

I've never heard anything about it.

I think its more for piece of mind than anything.
I've asked guys when I had the VC's off if I should, and they told me it wasn't a big deal.

If you were making big power, I would think it was a good idea.

Not bad, you can feel it from the drivers seat and the stick shakes a little bit. You can also hear it from outside.

The chip was setup for the injectors from the get-go. Tyrant tunes on a TS6 chip.

This morning when I started it I think it was a bit warmer than yesterday, but there was about 2.5" of wet heavy snow on the truck. It lit off fine, I let it idle for maybe 2 minutes at the factory idle, then kicked it up to 1300 with the AIC and no miss. That was after roughly 13 hours of being parked.

Just to help flesh out the story, when I put the injectors in I didn't have my glow plug "tool" so I called a friend/fellow PSD owner/Ford tech. He told me to just spin it over without the glow plugs or injectors installed to clear it out, so thats what I did. Installed the GP's, installed the injectors, then when I hit the key it barely turned at all. I hit the key 4-5 more times before it finally turned over. It runs fine when its warm, and I believe I did a CCT shortly after the injectors were installed and there were no issues.

Chase got this from the SD section. Kwikkordead noticed that he had several loose injectors on his truck when he checked them with a torque wrench. Others decided to check there's too and almost everyone who has checked has found at least one or two injectors loose. I don't know if it's a SD issue, or just the o-rings settling in and needing to be snugged up a little better. With split shot injectors, you can hear the engine get more quite after you re-torque them.

So it sounds like you've got a rough idle similar to what the gray CPS was causing when it first came out. Any time you deal with rebuilt injectors, there's always a chance something was missed or one doesn't flow right, or whatever else they may have go wrong.

Does the miss change any in different tunes? I'd play with that and then call Cale and get his input. Getting the truck on AE would be helpful too.

You would think if it were necessary , navistar would have had it in the manual..

A bolt is a bolt ... If you are too stupid to properly torque an injector in the first place , you deserve to do it twice ...

I need to run AE on it, just haven't had the time. Never thought about the CPS, I do believe it has a gray one in there.

If that was thrown at me, the injectors were torqued to spec when I installed them.
