Stumbled upon this... Would it work for my engine?
Hi, I have an 87 f250 with the 6.9 I've seen the banks turbo setup floating around which doesn't really seem feasible due to the price, I was looking for a rebuilt version for less but this is all I could find... would this work for my engine? Ford 7.3 IDI Turbocharger (pre-powerstroke) 1819744C91, 1821328C | Diesel Turbos | Used Turbos
If not, does anyone know of a source for a non $2000 turbo that would work on this engine?
Thanks.
looks like it would, however i would keep an eye out on ebay and craigslist for a used kit. You see them every now and again, and you get everything, (or most everything) for $500-$1000. Throw some new seals and bearings in the turbo and youre all set.
that is for the turbo only. by the time you got done buying all the parts to put it on the truck, you will be up around 2 grand.
as hairy said, keep an eye on craigs list, ebay, and the classifieds here. you can pick up used complete banks and ats kits for between $500 and $1000
Keep looking. You want a kit. Like tjc says there are a lot of other parts you need. Not to mention, a lot of things that need to be relocated and rerouted that you will have to discover on your own. I don't know where you're at but I saw an 84 in the Sacramento craigslist with a banks on it for $700.00 they are out there.
A complete banks kit just sold on ebay yesterday for $540. It was a complete kit including turbo. I did see, a for the most part complete, factory kit setup on ebay earlier today. Can't remember what the price was up to on that one though.
