Transmission and P0781 code

After doing much searching and reading I have accepted the fact that I will need a replacement Transmission. My only issue is I just recently moved to NKY and its hard trying to find a reputable place that can do this costly repair and I do not want to get burnt. Does anyone FTE fam know of a reputable place I can take my Navi to in either NKY or Cincinnati? I will chance taking the ride to Cincinnati if the place is worth it but I need this done soon, would like to have my Navi back before winter kicks in full gear. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

I can refer you to someone in Cincy. He's one of the guys from SHO forum who happens to own his own transmission shop. He's done a number of transmissions for the SHO owners.

Transmission Repair Shop Cincinnati | Cincinnati Transmission Repair Shop | Northgate Transmissions | Transmission Repair Shop Cincinnati Ohio

Ask for Mike Yeager. Tell him "ProjectSHO89 from SHOForum" sent you. Mike will take care of you.

Good luck!

No I can still drive it but it's parked now. I was driving when I noticed my Overdrive light started blinking. I took it to a Ford dealership to have them check and they told me it was giving them P0781, I researched the code and come to find out if your Navi was manufactured between 07/2000 thru 03/2001 you have one of these raggedy trannys that is subject to one up to three codes. At this point my Navi shifts hard when going from 1st to 2nd and this is what the p0781 code means.

If a hard 1-2 up-shift is the only manifested issue, it might be something as simple as a busted 1-2 accumulator spring.

If not, it's going to require a tear down with parts replacement per the TSB.

I hope that is the case. :-)

The accumulator spring and piston used to come as a kit and is not a difficult job for a person with moderate DIY skill and a few hand tools. The most important tool needed is a really good pair of snapring pliers, SnapOns or equal.
If you don't want to do it you could take it to a shop and tell them you want the trans fluid and filter changed and the pan cleaned and while they are in there, check the 1-2 accumulator spring and piston as well as the bore it sits in. If you have the parts with you the job won't take but 15 extra minutes as they will already be in the area of the accumulator. It would be wise for you to be there while the work is being done. You would be sirprized to know how many trans rebuilds are sold that only needed a spring.
If the spring kit is not needed you can take it back to Ford for a refund.

Great info I think I would like a shop to check because I need to have one on stand by in case something happens. :-)

Just be sure to have the part with you when they look at it. Most dealers have them in stock but they do run out at times. You will not need a new pan gasket as the OEM one is re-usable.

Does'nt make sense

Just got home did some searching and found the following part numbers

F7AZ-7F251-AA - Accumulator
F4AZ-7F247-A - Cover and Seal
F75Z-7F284-AA - Upper Spring

These parts are what was listed to help correct the 1-2 issue. These parts are listed for the following vehicles: 2001 F150, Expedition but not my 2001 Navi according to the Ford parts guy. I thought the Navi was an Expedition with a Lincoln body and of course some other things but I thought the engine and tranny were the same. Anyone care to help point me in the right direction?

If those parts are for the 4R100 transmission you should be good to go. Parts guys are parts guys, wether they work at AutoZone or Ford. They often do not have a clue and are too lazy to check.

He didn't answer when I asked him if these parts were for a 4R100W Tranny.
