Key won't engage starter...

Ok, I just got the truck and it's got some bug's but this is one of the bigger ones. The lock cylinder is so worn out you can remove the key at any time. Originally, the problem was it wouldn't go back far enough to engage the steering lock and shut the radio off. So I decided to replace it with a new one from work.. That turned into a nightmare So now the darn thing won't engage the starter. Like there is no "spring" when you try to turn the key to engage the starter. I can get it to the RUN position and then manually jump the starter at the solenoid and drive the truck.

It's a '92 F-150 5.0 4x4, AOD trans and tilt steering wheel.

Yes based on what you said that's what most likely the cause of the problem.

You said Like there is no "spring" when you try to turn the key to engage the starter, the spring action is provided by the ignition switch via that actuator to the key tumbler.
The actuator is pot metal and not very tough, its fairly easily broke by continued use of a bad key tumbler and or when changing it.

Ah ok, is it a dealer-only item? or can I get it at any part's store?
