Has anyone come up with a better idea than Ford.

The rubber hose squeezes down so much between the bed and the frame that some pumps won't pump slow enough to keep from kicking off.

Is the bed crushing the hose? or Is there room for the hose to be thicker; for lack of a better word. I had that issue and used two hose clamps which made the hose more egg shaped and took the flatness out of the hose. Fills fine now.

Hard to say. Part of the problem is probably the age of the hoses, 38 years. I have new hose but haven't had the inclination to replace them.
And I don't know if it would be easier to raise the bed or lower the tanks.
