i have an 1988 f150 302 V8 truck. a couple months ago the truck had decided to stop running. it quite quietly, there was no shaking, like i turned the key(i didn't). that day, about 2 hours later(having it been towed to a close parking lot), i had orielly auto shop read the code, and the reader came up clean. no problems. now it's at my home, have replaced, ignition control module, the ignition relay, fuel pump relay. the fuel filter, it has a new rotor and cap, i was told by my dad that the needles in the fuel injecters too???? i'm not sure if that makes sence.
trucks preformance up to date, it will start on occasion, it can stay running for 30 minutes, or quite in 5 seconds. it quites the same way, silent and nothing else. any ideas.
how do you messure fuel pressure. i don't know much about vehicles, tbh, kind of an idiot. but, from the test i just did, i don't think i have a consistant spark.

You'd need connect a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve on the fuel rail, kinda looks like a tires valve stem. (No you can't use a tire pressure gauge!)
I'd check it, rent a gauge if you have to.
And also verify if it has spark or not no start condition.
well, here's what i did to see if it had spark i took the spark plug out and connected it back to it's wire. i had someone else try start the truck. i held the plug next to a metal that was ground. and i got one spark. i had the other person start it three more times. but just that one time it sparked.
Sounds like a bad ground, check the connections to the battery and then follow the cables all the way and see if there is a break or if the ground is good. Thats where I'd start.
possibly distributor issues and or timing chain. Do you have access to a multi meter to do some tests? Also did O'reilly's guy run all of the scanner tests? I find that hard to believe. If it turns out to be dist. problem. DO NOT buy a remanufactured one. They suck! if they work at all. Best of luck.
takes 2 people for this. take the air intake off the throttle body. spray a bit of starting fluid into the throttle body. have assistant turn key to start truck. if its got spark it will start. spritz the starting fluid about one blip of the nozzle per second for 30 seconds or so, if the truck stays running like that, you have a bad fuel pump.
if the truck has 2 fuel tanks, be aware that not only is there a pump in the tank, but a pump inline along the driver side frame rail. one or both may have failed.
