Welcome to FTE.

You will find that the great majority of people will recommend the stock air filter. Follows are a few facts that explain why this is the case:

  • Stops 99.99% of contaminants one micron or larger (human hair isapproximately 74 microns) and hold over 3 pounds before needing replacement
  • Manufactured by Donaldson, using their patented PowerCore design
  • Contains twice the amount of filter media versus conventional pleated filters
  • Same filter technology as used in the M1 Abrams tank!

Your buddy got it right on this one, Donaldson AF are good to 500hp and will hold about 7 lbs of dirt and still flow air. I would not put a K&N on my lawn mower if they made one for it.

Hard to argue with that.

I concur. I know of a bunch of pretty strong running 6.0's that not only filter great due to the factory filter set up, but look stock (relatively) under the hood. In smog states, a smog guy doing a visual looks for an aftermarket intake first thing.

You would be surprised what a smog guy may overlook (not purposely, of course) if he thinks the truck is stock.

I have a 04 F350 6.0l, and I have also driven a M1 Abrams and worked on them and I keep my stock everyday.
