Hi,
I am wondering if there is any reason why I could not swap the A4OD in my 1992 351W F-250 with a 4 speed standard transmission?
A friend of mine thought that he had heard that the cranks in the 351 was balanced for either auto or standard transmission and that they are not interchangable without damaging the crank bearings.
Any help would be appreciated..
They are not balanced on either using an auto or a manual. The only difference is that for a manual there needs to be a pilot bearing in the end of the crank. So in your case, switching to an auto, you would need to remove it. A good way to remove them is find a bolt or something the same size, fill the end of the crank with grease, and hit the bolt, the grease will force the pilot bearing out. You may need a computer to run the A40D??? but im not sure on that one...
Thanks for your reply.
So, since I want to take the A4OD out and replace it with a standard all I have to do is to get a pilot bearing and install it at the end of the crank.
I will call my dealer and see if they know what bearing I am talking about.
