A little while ago I had a wheel leave my Excursion while towing my 28ft trailer. I did have some aftermarket aluminum wheels. To this day I’m still not 100% sure if the wheel broke or the lugs loosened up. I have made the decision to go back to a stock wheel but I am wondering what I should do. I was looking on Craig’s list for some wheels and have come across a lot of different years/styles. My ex is a 2001. I’m wondering if anyone knows what year f250/350 wheels I can put on this thing? I did find some newer 18” F350 stock wheels that looked nice. I have also looked at some steel wheels. My ex is primarily used for towing and I am in the process of getting all my stuff together to run over some CAT scales to get an actual weight I am carrying. Does anyone have any suggestions<O</O Thanks<O</O
If you want to go with some rims from the later trucks, you need hub centric spacers as it's a different lug pattern. If you try to save some cash and go with lug centric spacers, you'll regret it...
Can you share a little more detail about when your wheel 'left' the Excursion? Did the wheel studs break? Did the wheel break? Maybe a photo after the incident? The thing to look for on CL is an 8 lug, 170mm bolt pattern (8 x 170). I think the 1999/2005 stock F250/350 rims will fit your 2001 no problems, but it's a good idea to test fit one first.
It is really difficult to tell exactly what happened. There was not much left of the wheel when I found the tire. All I know is I was about an hour from home after being on the road for four hours. I came back into Michigan and started hitting the normal bumps in the road. After a bigger then normal bump in the road I heard a weird noise and felt a vibration. I started to slow down and pull over and got it down to about 15 -20 mph and hit the brakes and that is when it felt like I got hit. There was a huge bang and the Right rear was on the ground. All the studs were gone and the wheel center was gone too. There was aluminum pieces all around in little chunks. The face of the mounting flange looked good. Not like the wheel was loose for any length of time.
I really liked the look of the wheels I had but I am not 100% confident this will not happen again with that wheel.
WOW, thet's some serious carnage. Depending on how old the wheel was, you may have a complaint with the wheel shop. Also, how long since the wheel was off or checked. Makes me glad I can't afford custom wheels right now, as I would probably have a set already!

I have a set of stock aluminum wheels if you are interested....where are you located MI ?......question for you....tell me about the Duratrac tires ....wear...handling.....how do you like them ??.are they good ?? I really liked the look of the wheels I had but I am not 100% confident this will not happen again with that wheel.
The duratracs were great tires. They ride great and handle really good. Unfortunately I need a real load range e tire for pulling my trailer. How much are you looking to get for your wheels? Do you have any pictures?

How did I manage to nest my reply inside of yours ??
I can get you some pictures.......they are stock Aluminum Excursion wheels for 2000 model.....I can get you a pic this weekend....mine are in excellent condition......right now they have a set of 285's on them..........not sure what they are worth.
I know VA sheriff had a set that were tires off already.......you might PM him also......I was looking at his because I wanted 2 sets of rims....I changed my mind and ended up with 2 sets of aftermarket wheels since I wanted 315 tires. How did the duratracs wear ? I thought they were load range E ?

Pictures would be great, I don’t need the tires just the wheels & caps so shoot me a price. The Duratracks came on the truck when I bought it and were brand new. I have about 1k on them and they seem fine but that is really not long enough to tell. They say load range E but there max inflation is only 65 psi. So they basically seem like a load range D tire. I need a good highway tire for what I am doing so I am getting some LTX m/s2 for the ex with stock wheels.
Don't know yet....gotta do some research.....no idea what a fair price is for them.....plus I would need to remove the tires and then there's shipping......
