As soon as Craigslist got mentioned I bit my tongue... I was watchin out for ya Doc, only indian barterin and horse tradin - no spending money on this!
It's easy to get caught up and spend money... If your gonna spend money sink it into the F1 first - get some roadable enjoyment out of your bux.
Doc, you got it so spread the wealth, by the way, did you buy it, it looks pretty good, wouldn't even have to paint it, perfect.
Easy there homade. Money isn't falling off any of my trees. There's a reason I bought a project like everybody else. Some guys have expensive hobbies like golf and bass boats. I play with old iron and my tractor. But you're right. It will look right just like it is.

Ok now I got a question (Bob), how sure are you of the hardware drawings you got... I have a very close to original truck, and what is claimed by the PO as near original stakeside bed, and the above dealer handbook drawing matches more to what I have than what your drawing is.
This piece is my question: http://www.fatfenderedtrucks.com/sca...nsver01_13.pdf
I have looks very similar (I have not measured for hole dia, etc - just eyeballing it), but mine has a 90 degree bend and not a 1/4" offset. Which the above drawing is pretty 2d, but the more I look at it, the more I think they are 90 degree bend as well.
My (48) F1 came with a 7 1/2 foot non ford script. The sides are original looking, rivets and all, the back panel is totally different - smooth, integrated pockets.
PO claims it had a 6 1/2 foot ford script, wrecked, changed to a 7 1/2 ford script from donor F2, then rear banged up pretty bad and the rear member replaced. He gave me 6 1/2 wood sides with wood uprights and 7 1/2 wood sides with steel uprights (rebuilt and missing an upright). They use have half stove bolt / half sex bolt for sides assembly.. I have a handful of hardware (everything was painted flat black when I got it, and shows no layers of paint / primer / etc - everything even the wood). I also got the mangled rear member bearing the ford script (it is beyond my metal working skills)
The beds for the F-1 and F-2&3s are slightly different than the larger trucks. They have wood uprights, not the metal ones like the larger trucks. Also, the rear left bumper is shorter than the right side to allow for the spare tire to be stored.
I have pictures of a very original, complete flatbed that I can post if you want.
The drawing I posted are as on the money as I could draw them using the very complete, original bed I bought for my F-2.

I have just finished restoring a 1956 F-350 dually. It came with a trashed utility bed which I scraped. Ideally, I would also like to find a F O R D Script platform bed for this truck to bring it back to original. The exposed truck frame is about 95" long, measured from the rear of the cab, and 35" wide, measured from the outside of the two frame rails (about 34" on centers). I think the correct size with the dual wheels would be 109" L x 87" W? Is that correct?? Is anybody building these aftermarket? Thanks, Jeff
Welcome to the forum, JeffLee. I am freshening a '56 flatbed DRW with Ford script stake bed. Link to some old pictures in my gallery if you're interested. I currently just got the 272 back in after overhaul..The body work is done so I am about ready for paint and reassembly of the sheetmetal and doors.
You are correct, the bed outside measurements of the stake bed are 87 1/4" X 109 1/2". I don't know of anyone reproducing the Ford script bed. Probably not enough of these things to justify tooling costs.
Why not start a thread, introduce yourself and put up some pictures.
Hey Ray, thank for the welcome and info.
My F-350 also has a dump frame installed. It has a Chelsea 2-**** control under the dash and a Muncie hydraulic pump pushing the cylinder. I was told the Chelsea/Muncie dump was a factory option mostly used on grain haulers. I hope to mount the Ford script flatbed (when I find one!) on the dump actuated rails.
I posted pictures of my F-350 (in progress) and F-100 in "My Garage". Check them out, please. I pick up my powder coated shorty running boards tomorrow... almost done.
Wow, Ray, we have twins.... almost. I took a look at your photos of your F-350. The original color on mine was Code U - meadow green, like yours. After fixing a bunch of rusted out corners with patch panels, I decided to go with the lighter Meadow Mist Green. Just put in new glass all around thanks to some kids with BB guns.
I have the same 2 control ***** for the hydraulics, but mine are in a sub panel down by my left knee. My Muncie pump sits off to the right side of the drive shaft, powered by the PTO off the side of the 4 speed.
I'm trying to figure out how to start a new thread, but these forums are not as straight forward as a mouse click....
