We don't smoke in there. I'm an Aircraft Weapons Tech:
You just reminded me of a "funny" time back on my flight line days at Eglin AFB when an F4 came in with a 2000 lb smart bomb that had somehow armed itself in flight and did not drop when the pickle button was pressed. I was an Aircraft Armament Systems tech and troubleshot broke aircraft weapons systems (F-16, A-10, F-111, F-4, and F-15). Anyhoo, I went to the aircraft and there was a big crowd there... I can't work on an aircraft with an armed bomb (especially one that big) and I called EOD to come do something with it. They show up to do an assessment. The guy asked me for a hammer so he could "reset" the fuse... I gave him my hammer and asked him to wait a couple of minutes for me to leave (so did everyone else). I told him I'd come to his shop and get my hammer later... I watched the F-4 in my rear view mirror all the way down the flight line, but never saw a fireball - thankfully. I went back later and fixed the plane that was still there - I really didn't think it would be.
Nowadays you can find pickled pig parts in my truck or in the trailer it's pulling - a little less exciting, but so may good memories on the flight line at a test facility for new weapons...
