I just ordered a 450 cab and chassis and the webuild allowed me to select a 4.10LS but when dealer entered the order he said it was only 4.30 LS with the hi cap (16,500/30,000) Maybe if you downgrade the capacity you can get the 4.10 as in the pick up model. Then again, with these transmissions, I dont think you will see a huge difference. So I guess I wont see this truck till spring......

Hey Scott what kind of bed you putting on your chassis cab? I love my flatbed, great to load plywood on. And, the best of all no more cringing worrying if the bottom of ther 5er was going to hit the top of the bed rails. Mileage far better than I was figuring on.

If I get any further updates I'll be sure to let you know.
That's good news! Yea, I'd like to know when you get your VIN.

Jim, I am replacing a truck that got totalled, so I am putting a 12' stake dump body on it. It will have removable sides and a removable swing rear gate and goal posts front and back for my ladders. Oh and a 48" box on pass side and a 24" box on the drivers side. I would never use it for 5th so the rear goal post wont be in my way. It is with a local Redding body builder who is been very easy to work with as far as custom mods.
I tried to order the 4.10 for milage concerns, but have to get the 4.30.

I havent figured out to multi quote in 1 reply...so, I have a 2011 and love this transmission. I thought the last one that came out with the 6.0 was good, but this one is twice as good. Misshifts? once in a while, nothing major. Goes to 6th gear as soon as 40mph which is a little annoying but if you want good gas milage with all this EPA junk on it.... Otherwise smooth shifts and the tow/haul mode is awesome.

Scott that sounds like a fantastic work truck. The company I had build my bed makes mostly aluminum flatbeds, aluminum stock trailers and aluminum flatbed trailers. Aluminum being the key here. They designed mine with a well in the middle that the hitch sets in and when not needed removes from the rails and is covered with you guessed it, aluminum lid. I just love it and the aluminum underbed boxes are SO much handier that the top mounted boxes. The manufacturing company are great people and only charged a very small fee for the engineering of the over size well for the hithch. Super people to work with!!!!

My truck has just a little over 10,000 miles and hasn't been at a dealer since the day I took delivery. No CEL's, mis-shifts, bouncing, turbo lag or anything else. 60 mph is 1800 rpm when towing the 5th wheel. My truck is virtually a tow truck for the 5th wheel and nothing else. Plywood for a project once in a while.

My rearend choices where 3.73 non-LS or 4.10 LS. I chose the 4.10 LS, My dealer had already found an aftermarket 3.73 LS that they could install if I was unhappy with the 4.10LS. I couldn't be happier with my choice and wouldn't change a thing. I never drive over 60 mph loaded or empty. My truck will never see 70 mph or anything over that. So, I get good mileage and I get where I'm going just a few minutes after the guys that drive 75-85 mph. But I've always been a slower driver than most.

I'd love to see pictures of the new truck when you get it done!!

I'll difinetely send it. It will be sharp for a work truck. If for no other reason, all the 450 lanscapers are oxford white. Mine will be tuxedo black, black boxes, black body and a little chrome just so folks will see it coming down the road. I like your set up thought if I was going with white. I always liked aluminum decks and boxes.

Scott, I got the request, not sure what to do with it. I clicked on something then "save". If I goof it up it's because I don't know what I'm doing. Let's keep in touch. I sure want to know how your chassis cab build goes. There are not many of us c/c guys on here.

Is there a big difference between the 2011 and 2012?
The dealer told me I could get a great deal on a 2011 F450 next year, because they would still be on the lots.

You will be able to get a great deal because of rebates, who ever you will be limited to what they still happen to have in stock. If your not picky then it will work, other wise you might have a tough time. Navigation might be a hard one if you want it since the last part of the 2011's it wasn't available. A lot of the inventory currently on dealer lots don't have it.

Update: Today Ford confirmed the order with Tuxedo Black as a clean order (no backorders). I should have the vin next week. The build date is scheduled for 12/5 with delivery before Christmas. We had to involve the local rep to elevate the order yesterday.
Here's to keeping the dates promised

Thats great news!!! I cant beleive it took 2 months to get to that point. I spoke to my dealer the other day and my order went to the factory Monday. He said I should have a vin and a build date next week. He says retail is first priority. Not only for building, but for parts as well. Did your dealer put the order through fleet?
