I got a 2000 f250 7.3 4door 4x4. i got the truck in 06 with 96k on it. I got 217k on her now. I love the truck we have had our moments but i take great care of her.
Recently was pulling my 50hp deere tractor. I notice that when i turn onto a street from a stop sounds like the rear end is grinding real bad. From a stop starting off going stright it seems ok. But if im at a stop sign turning left or right when i take off the rear end grinds. Deffently not normal. It has been going on for a while and need to get it taken care of.
I have neglected the rear end. Have only changet the fluid once in 100k
I read a similar post awhile back about changing the fluid and putting an additive into it tho cure it if im correct. Anyone have any advice or insight on the subject?
check and make sure all of your brake calipers and brake brackets are bolted correctly in place and tight.
I had a similiar problem last week, brake bracket bolt had come out and the caliper was rubbing on the inside of my wheel....I could be waaaayyy off but worth checking anyways?
Since you have to pull the cover to drain the differential, I'd go ahead and look inside. If all looks good, change the gear oil and add 2 oz of limited slip additive. Drive it, turning frequently in both directions, and keep adding 1 oz until the clutch pack chatter goes away. If you add too much right away, the clutches will slip more and defeat their purpose.
I would all above. If you don't find it check axle bearing. i did a brake job on my dually and found one bad wheel bearing I didn't even know it was there. Know noise that I heard. Changed all bearing and races. About 140K at that time.
