Does your JD have synchromesh gears or turn at the same speed as the ZF-6? I think you're better off just pouring good old fashioned ATF in there. I change mine every 50,000 miles and it always comes out nice and red with no issues. Why argue with success?

I would be afraid to try that. I just use ATF like the auto trannies.

I wouldn't do it either. I just use Mobil 1 synthetic univeral ATF and change it every 40k or so, mine seems to like it just fine.

I tried that once. My truck seems to actually do a little better with the regular ATF instead of the synthetic.

That's strange, mine is always quieter and smoother with the synthetic and it shifts better when it's really cold out, in the single digits.

I don't know about the single digit stuff. If it were that cold outside I wouldn't go anywhere. I don't like it when it drops below 60.

Yeah last time I tried synthetic, it seemed my syncros were off. Maybe it was too slick haha.

Amen. I must admit, I do prefer it to our usual horrible weather (37 and raining with wind) becuase it's usually clear or had been snowing, but that's rare up here. Still, when it gets like that I usually see if I can bail out of town and head south for a while so I don't go completely crazy. Hawaii's siren song gets stronger every winter I spend up here in exile.
