I have an 82 f100 with a six and a three speed. I found a carburated 302 with a manual clutch and a t56b transmission 5 speed. I know it won't be a straight swap but will it work. Can I get the parts like the longer shifter and will the clutch hook up. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Where did the 302 and that tranny come from? If it was from a truck, it would certainly work, and you would have all the proper parts.
Will it fit your truck. The 302 will, but you will have to get the proper frame brackets, the proper truck exhaust manifolds, radiator, throttle cable, and some of the wiring will have to be extended or shortened.
If the tranny came out of a car, it could have a mechanical clutch, cable clutch, or hydraulic clutch and may or may not fit properly.
If you stick with the truck stuff, or have a truck donor, then it's pretty simple.
I have pretty much decided against it. You kinda outlined my worries. The engine came from a car maybe a mustang and the transmission from a thunderbird. I think I am going to go back to plan a and use a donor truck I have and find a 4 speed to go with it. Thanks
