I have a 2005 Ford Explorer with the tire pressure sensor system with at least one defective sensor since every time I start the vehicle I get a "tire pressure sensor fault" message which I have to reset each time I use the vehicle. Since I have no intention of paying to have this problem corrected, I would like to know how to permanently disable this entire system so that I will get no fault messages. I plan on removing the wheel sensors as I renew tires which is not in the near future. TIA for your help.

The sensors are "programmed" using a sequence outlined in Owners Manual or Shop Manual, using a large doughnut-shaped permanent magnet placed around the tire valve stem. The tool only costs about $8.00 or so. You might try re-programming the 4 of them, before throwing the whole thing away. imp
If you have the metal valve stems you can reset them all yourself. Why not try that first rather than eliminate them since they are there for your safety.
Here is how to do it:
Starting from the off position, cycle the ignition key tree times from off to run ending in the run position. Then press the brake pedal and then cycle the key to off and back to run three times again ending in run.
The horn should sound once and message saying the tpms system is in the training mode should appear in the message centre and then switch to "train left front sensor".
To do that just put a magnet on the valve stem and hold it there until the horn sounds. It should only take a few seconds. Then do the right front, right rear, and left rear sensors.
A message should then appear saying the training mode is completed, then your golden.
Turn the ignition key to off and that's it.
Any magnet will do.
If your battery in the TPMS is going bad then you will either have to live with the dash light or replace the TPMS sensor(s) I have not found any info on disabling the system yet & I've been reading up on it quite a bit. I'm not about to spend $300 bucks on new sensors. If you can't keep a tire properly inflated then you need more than a dash light!
