Try dying after a couple starts

I can start and run my truck fine and shut her off. Come 5 minutes later I get symptoms of a dead battery, I'm thinking something's overheating because the alternator and battery are fine, I had them tested. Any help guys?

So do your accessories work (radio, lights, etc.) when this happens?

If you turn on your headlights and try to start the truck do they get really dim or go out?

Do you have headers or stock cast iron manifolds?

I just thought about it about an hour ago it could be my headers. I just recently got the exhaust done and realized that it could be over heating the starter.

Use a shiny stainless metal heat shield on the collector and one of those reflective fiberglass boots over the starter.

Sometimes you need to go to a miniature starter like a Tilton if the issue is really bad.

Which headers do you have?
How close are they?
Are they ceramic coated?

Cheap flowtechs that I ceramic coated myself. They pretty much wrap around the starter

Yeah, I'd go with belt and suspenders...

The starter blankets are +/- $20.
The shield for the headers you could make from some scrap stainless and a couple of hose clamps.

Just remember to bend some little ears to space it off the pipes.

I think he's being sarcastic, being facetious.

Doing both, even though they are redundant.

Perhaps it's a quirky New England saying. ???

You need all the help you can get keeping your starter cool.
So, reflect the heat back at the source and insulate the starter too.

In my experience the New Englanders still have many sayings the same or similar to those the Brit's use. (Had customers and employees up there and spent a lot of time with them.) In this case the Brit's would say "belt and braces" since their term for suspenders is braces.

To quote ArdWrknTrk, "Yeah, I'd go with belt and suspenders..."

I am from the "south" and I have heard that expression all my life. The way it is told here is that this combination is what a "Safety Engineer" wears.
