Need help with the last few codes please

Hi all, I'm new to this Forum. I spent some time on it and it's so wonderful

I'm doing a frame off restoration on a 1965 F-100 beige/white. It does not have a plate on the door, which I assume means the door was replaced at some point (according to the fine folks on this forum). I am going to have one recreated, however, I'm having trouble decoding what I have.

I have the original Ford Truck Operators Manual that was in the glove box. The Ford Truck Owner Identification that was on the inside cover reads:

Warranty Number: F10DK648120
Vehicle Code: 129 TM F100 D81 A 07
Vehicle Description: F100 129 Style Pickup
Purchase Date: 2/23/65
Dealer Name: Eaton Motors, Inc. (P&A Code: 5020)
City/State: Warsaw, Missouri

I can't find the body code for D81. I think the "D" is interior color(s) and the 81 is 81B = Custom Cab.

I also can't determine the DSO number? Is there a way to find that out? I need the DSO so I can do a replacement door plate.

Thanks for you help. Great site!

I can help you with some of the decoding you are looking for, some of which will confirm what you already know. The information that came with your owner's manual is almost as good as having the door data plate. You might want to check the VIN against the one stamped on top of the passenger side frame rail about 30 inches in from the end of the bumper mount. There will be a second one, also on top of the passenger side frame rail located under the cab. If you're doing a body off frame restoration you should find both. Some light sanding (corrosion removal) may be necessary. F10 = 2 wheel drive F100 truck. D = 352 V8 2bbl engine. K = built in Kansas City. 648XXX = built in February, 1965. 129 = wheelbase in inches. TM = two tone paint - T = beige; M = Wimbledon White. D81 = interior is light beige crush vinyl and medium beige ladder pattern woven plastic in a Custom Cab. A = 3 speed light duty transmission. 07 = 3.25 ratio Ford 9 inch non-limited slip axle. You're missing the third line of data, but we can recreate much of it. Your max GVW in pounds will be 5000. Your certified net HP will be 172 @ 4000 rpms. Number Dummy may have some ideas on your DSO. One possibility (probability?) with your truck having been built in Kansas City in February, 1965 and sold in Warsaw, MO also in February, 1965, and Warsaw being quite close geographically to KC, is that the DSO might be 53 (for KC), possibly with four numbers after that because of a Domestic Special Order. Sadly, we cannot guess what those numbers might be as all factory records for that have long since been destroyed. Hope this helps.

Great Information SuperSabre

Thanks a ton. D means light beige crush vinyl and medium beige ladder pattern woven plastic. That's the piece I didn't know.

The owners manual and www.didgeytruck.com matches what you said about the engine, being a 352 V8 2bbl engine, however, they state that the certified net HP is 208 @ 4400 rpms. Maybe that is the same as your comment about it being 172 @ 4000 rpms?

Yes, the DSO is a problem. I am having a replacement plate made and I will use your 53 for Kansas City. That's about the best possible I think.

Thanks again

208 is the number for gross horsepower. That's also a number you will find on the air cleaner decal and the advertising literature. But 172 is the net horsepower figure that appears on the data plate.

One little potential glitch...if its a Camper Special it will most likely have a different GVWR listed on the plate.
DSO would be a guess...One thing you could do also is call Maple Motors in Warsaw...they are a Ford dealer and according to their site have been around for 50 years...

Their number is 660-438-7324 you could ask if their name used to be eaton and if so which DSO they get their cars from...tell them you are restoring an old truck you believe was sold by them...give them the info you have and go from there...You could also get ahold of the Mo. state DMV/DOL and see if they can run your VIN as it was first sold new in Mo. and they may be able to dig up the original title application from 1965...i did that sucessfully for mine with Oregon...

Camper Special Rocks!

Good info Camperspecial. I already contacted Marples, like you suggested, but didn't think about the DMV.

Good suggestion. Thanks.

Hey guys i bought a 1965 f100 about 8 months ago and today i found the vin number. it is very hard to read so i thought i would ask yall if this sounds right and if so what does it mean? The Number i found was F10D_677850 i cant read the 5th digit so im goin to have to wait till i pull the cab off the get the full vin . For some background when i bought this truck it had no VIN# tags they had all been removed and not by the guy that i bought it from so i wasnt able to obtain them so im haveing to look on the frame for the vin and i found it just before the shock tower on the passenger side of the frame but it isnt stamped good so any information that all can give me would be much appreicated.

Backyard, the most I can get out of your VIN is: F10 = F100 2 wheel drive truck, D = 352 cubic inch V8 2 bbl carb, and 677XXX = built in April, 1965. The missing letter will be the code for the factory where it was built. Here are all the codes - see if any of them will work for you: C = Ontario, Canada. D = Dallas. E = Majwah, NJ. H = Lorain, Ohio. K = Kansas City. L = Michigan Truck. N = Norfolk, VA. P = Twin Cities, MN. R = San Jose, CA. S = Pilot Plant. U = Louisville, KY.
