F10 = F series 1/2 ton 2WD pickup
A = 240 6 cylinder engine
L = Michigan assy.
821997 = Feb. 1966 build date
129 = wheelbase in inches(longbed)
W = Medium Blue
F100 = truck model
281 = 2 is interior trim color/pattern- Medium blue crush vinyl and medium blue wicker pattern vinyl, the 81 is a conventional cab. the number in front of the 81 denotes a base model truck, Custom Cab models would have a letter instead of a number in this place.
C = manual light duty 3 speed trans.
08 = 3.50 standard rear axle
5000 = max GVWR
129@4000 = engine cert. net HP

Of the info you gave on this one, the only thing I would snag is the auto column...IF its the original...If it has a good firewall insulation pad...or if either of them do, Im in need of one badly also. Also, on the first truck
Also, if the truck has it original seat a nd covering...I suspect the seats prolly thrashed...grab a sample of the insert material...some of the patterns can be more difficult then others to find then others and the parts catalogs on CDs dont have the color pics like the papaer books do...or at least partially as in my case. I would try to grab 3X3 or so if you can...Im trying to get some of the different samples together to create my own visual aid
On the Mercs, Z code in the VIN is a 390 4bbl engine, the 1st car has a 3.00 conventional axle(1) with a Twin Range Turbo Drive trans.which I sense is a fancy name for a C-O-M
The 1 and 4 on the 2nd car is the same as the first, both are 1965s, both are 4 dr h/t, 2nd car is a Parklane and the first is a Monterey
Thanks alot. Still no posi and still no 427, 428, or 429 hidden gems yet, lol. The 2nd truck I think did have a auto steering column missing the plastic drive indicator piece. The first truck has a automatic column with a 289 and probably a c4. I am also in need of a auto column, but I will take a look at them again and get back with you. I think the plastic piece is still available. The seat from the second truck has been replaced or redone.
On the mercs, Even though it was a 390 instead of a 429 as the breather states, I kind of like the valve covers that say mercury on them. Still might grab the whole engine if its cheap enough.

Thanks for all the help!
Just an off the wall question. Could it be that the engine in the Merc is a transplant??? Probably not, but I have seen stranger things.
Its possible...depending if its a greaseball or not is a fair indicator as if its OE the bolts and such would be buried to a degree possibly and so on....Look for the engine tag also...390 TBird engines were under the LF intake manifold bolt, all other engines its under the coil mounting bracket bolt. And just for drill, the tags on the 260 and 289 are under the temperature sender.
yes, all FE engines began life as a 352...the 352 you see on the LF of the block for whatever reason was never taken out of the casting...as far as the 429, Im not sure of...I believe the 428 is the FE...the 429 is of the 385 family..
FE engines are the 332, 352,360,361,390,391,406,410 and 428
385 engine family is the 429, Boss 429 and 460
Y Blocks are the 239,254,272,292 and 312
