I bought my truck bout 4 months ago, And it has no wastegate on the turbo, So im only getting like 15psi of boost max. My question is were and what kind of Wastegate can I buy. Its a garret turbo, but im pretty sure its not factory. How to tell about that to?
Exhaust Backpressure Valve
(Ebpv) is shut. It shouldn't be closed when its warm. May be worth taking the down pipe loose on top and see if its hung partial shut.
What everyone else said... a stock truck will get about 15-18psi. Mine with 160cc Stage I injectors and a custom chip gets about 32psi, that's with the stock Garrett TP38 turbo with no wastegate.
That weird sound is the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve which stays closed in cold temps to help it warm up faster. I just unplugged mine (2-wire plug under the turbo on driver side) and it just stays open all the time.

You misunderstand what a wastegate does... A wastegate acts as a valve to allow exhaust to bypass the turbine wheel and housing to LIMIT boost pressure and backpressure. So, using a wastegate you could lower boost or if your truck came stock with a wastegate(OBS does not come with them) you could use the wastegate to allow less exhaust to bypass the turbine and therefore get more boost pressure.
As said, a wastegate will not allow you to get more boost. Since you do not have one on your truck, your already getting all the boost you can get from your truck. To change that you will need a chip or injectors or both.. Also an intake and exhaust could allow a pound or two more boost.
I didn't give all all the information ya need as I can tell now, As of right now that I know off, My truck has a edge evolution chip,40-80 hp, 80-180 ft-lbs.(that I keep on lvl 2) AFE cold air intake, and theirs a sticker under the hood that says K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit, but I think thats just the filter and the setup for it?
Also the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve go back to normal usally after bout 3-8 secs depends on how cold it is.
You could have uppipe leaks, boost leaks, bad MAP sensor, worn injectors. Unplug the electrical connection on the MAP sensor and see if it runs better on a nice run

Maybe its the edge chip, thouse are not good for our PCMs and get rid that K&N filter ASAP thouse are not good for diesel engines.
Yep, Edge, Superchips, Bullydog, etc chips and programmers don't do well in our trucks. TS is best for a "cheap" chip, but you can get good custom tunes on them for not much more.
And the K&N filter needs to go. They let more dust through and can hurt your turbo.
Try taking the intake boot off the turbo and inspect your turbo wheel. If it has chips in the fins or too much up-down or side-side play it might need a rebuild.
Yea I dont have the k&n filter, I just have the intake pipes from K&n I bought a Afe filter, and When I took the K&N off I took all the pipes off and looked the turbo Is like new. When I bought it the guy I got it off of said it was about 2 years old, It dont look bad at all, and whats the tc programmer called?
