I have been having some problems lately. I had turbo farting issues, cleaned turbo, replaced VGT solenoid and removed the throttle plate. That cleared up all my issues truck ran great. Now it seems when im holding the throttle to maintain speed, my truck will lose power, then gain power in a stuttering/surging kind of way. And this only happens between 0-10psi on my boost gauge. I can be holding the throttle steady then all of the sudden my boost wil drop, then come back many times. If i press the throttle the truck jumps up and runs great......i cant seem to figure it out. Also i noticed my cruise control doesnt work now. not sure if there is any connection. I tried to find a fuse for the cruise control but couldnt find one.....any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.....Thanks!!!!
If you can: Check the MAP, EBP, and BARO sensors at KOEO to see if they are within .5 psi of each other. Check the MAP and EBP sensor tubes and make sure they are clean. Check your EGR valve and make sure it's clean. You could also be having ICP/IPR/HPO issues.
Have you code scanned the truck and what year model is it?
Seems like the "surge / studder / stammer " issue is as prevalent as the coolant puke- EGR cooler issue ? Is there a tech folder entry that covers it ?
Having said that I had identical symptoms that cleared up after having some work done including new EBP sensor / cleaned tube , and new HPOP / IPR valve .....
All i have to scan with is my SCT tuner and no codes are showing. I have an EGR delete so that shouldnt be an issue. I guess i need to break down and buy AE. Its a 2004 F350, 145k, studs, EGR delete, manual trans. I might try the EBP sensor since its not that expensive. The reason i dont think its an HPOP issue is because it runs great otherwise. Im still thinking its turbo/intake pressure related...thanks for all the responses!
If it is the icp sensor, the p2285 code is sometimes pending and may not come up on some scanners. I replaced my icp sensor and random surging went away.
Mine did the same thing a while back. I had a bad ICP sensor and an injector going bad. I changed both but I think the sensor will make it surge more than the injector will.

+1 to this. You'll need a ScanGauge or something that can read the parameters. Sounds to me like one is these sensors is flakey.
I also had surging shuttering, I called it bucking, issue
I also had surging shuttering, I called it bucking issue while maintaining speed or slight acceleration about 1700 rpm on 2004 Excursion 6.0L.
Finally fixed it about 6 weeks ago this issue was happening for over a year. It was stiction in the fuel injectors, did oil change with full synthetic 5w40 Rotella and added rev-x oil additive two 4oz jars, immediately things changed and within 15 min of driving problem was completely gone and has NOT returned in over 1500 miles, also fuel mileage went up by 2+mpg.
I’m NOT a believer of additives at all, but with all reading on Ford 6.0L running issues, it seemed like many say they help. Decided to try rev-x oil and gas treatments and the oil additive stuff worked for me, had tried several things and was about to sell or save $$$ for all new injectors. Tried cleaning EGR, MAF, new air filter, checked codes, did several early oil changes using full synthetic 5w40. Used / tried lots and lots of fuel additives / injector cleaners Lucas, Power Service supplement, Seafoam and STP, things seemed to get a little better at times, at least that is what I thought on a 2000 mile round trip Orlando to Philadelphia pulling 7000lb trailer (wrong). Figured this stuff was worth a try and figured I had wasted $85.00 just shows how much I know about diesel engines; fingers crossed problem stays gone. Runs fine no codes, almost 16 mpg in city / suburbs - Much happier now!!!
