I recently purchased an F100 with 29,600mi. When I drove it home, it ran just fine. But since then, I've been having a few problems with the engine runnin rough, it's got a 300 6cyl.
When I first got the truck, I noticed the smog pump had been removed. The owner still had the pump, so I checked it out and it was seized.
So, after I got it home, a few weeks later it started running like it was missing, I replaced plugs, plug wires, dist cap & rotor bug, etc.. and still having problems. I also checked & plugged all vacume leaks. Compression checked it and it was just fine.
The actual problem is that it run's really rough on take off and when I let up on the gas, it want's to die. It was also smoking a lot at idle, so I checked the butterfly and it was stuck. Fixed that, but it still did not help with the chuggin at take off and runnin rough at road speed.
Also, I replaced the exhaust system from the manifold back and eliminated the catalytic converter.
Not sure what else to check for at this point? Is the choke not backin off after it warms up?
I'm assuming you replaced the fuel filter, PCV valve, and air filter. After that, considering all the other repairs and maintennance you've done, my first guess would be that it might be time to rebuild the carburetor. Gas could have gummed up and clogged passages, etc.
Here's a thread with some info on rebuilding the type of carb you probably have (if it is stock):
Yes, everything but the PCV valve. I'll replace it, but I'm probably gonna have to at least pull the carb (again) and do a more thorough job cleaning it this time.
Look up Carter YF on ebay. For $51 I got a new carb and fuel pump.........w/free shipping! Almost cheaper than rebuilding and spending a day doing it only to find out that the casting is bad or something else crazy! Also, replace your exhaust/intake gasket and torque it PRPOERLY. That was my problem....a shot of carb cleaner towards the rear of the intake manifold told me I had an intake leak. Also, check your timing (10 btdc) and make sure your crank pulley (harmonic balancer) isn't wobbling around when the engine is idling (means the timing marks may be off due to it being worn).
