I have an older POWER MAC G4 computer and want to install Ubuntu. There are sites that say I can.
Does the Ubuntu CD install disc have to be burned for a MAC, or can I use one that was burned for a PC?
There is only one Ubuntu. It is a stand alone operating system (OS). When downloading Ubuntu you can also download an extra feature that will enable it to run alongside a Windows OS without installing it. You don`t need that but it makes no difference to what you propose if that feature is on the disc or not.
The only important thing is that Ubuntu (or any other OS) "sees" the drivers for the hardware in the installation computer.
Not a computer guru so hope that makes sense.

Thanks. I'm definitely far from being a computer anything.
It does make sense that the Ubuntu doesn't see the drivers.
Maybe that's why the old Power MAC G4 won't take the Ubuntu.
Again thanks.
Apparently you are not the only one with that problem. Did a search and one guy said to put Ubuntu version 7.10 onto a disc and that should install, you can update it then to the latest version.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Hopefully the MAC will take.
This may be a case of the blind leading the blind (no offence) but did you try booting direct from the CD you have?
No offense taking. Yes. I tried booting it from a CD several times, and all it did was just spin the CD.
It is an older MAC G4 (Model: Digital Audio).
I hate to junk it. It was well built and assembled here in the U.S. Unheard of now a days.
Where is donjammer when you need him? Anyway give version 7.10 a try and see how it goes.
Others can get Ubuntu to install in their mac g4 so you should too.
Apparently Ubuntu have a good Mac forum so maybe have a look there for ideas.
Good luck.

Thanks. I've seen some of the MAC forums, and they say it will work.
I'll definitely give the 7.10 a try. Again thanks.
