I buy my filters from Diesel Injection Service as well. I found (much to my dislike) that I had to really tighten the screw-on cover down.
One time, I had it tight and with the truck idling, fuel began to seep past the gasket so I shut the engine off and really tightened the cap. All was well with my idle test.
While I was driving to work the next morning, I started to smell diesel fuel from the vents in the cab. I popped the hood and found a lot of fuel in the valley of the engine. My wife brought some tools to my work and I really, really cranked it down. Problem solved. I just hope that I do not have any problems getting the cap off when it is time to replace the filter again.
Somthing doesn't sound right. You should not have to put that much force on that filter cap. Hopefully some of the guys may be able to add some positive input. Good luck.
yep, sounds like something is wrong, I put mine on hand tight and haven't had a leak.
As for the cost, Diesel Injection Service, bought 12 for about 10.50 ec. about a year ago. Just 2 from Ford cost as much as the twelve did. If you don't want to buy on line International Trucks sell it for less then 20 bucks.
FWIW, I recently placed an order for fuel filters with Diesel Injection Service and was informed they're on back order until after the 1st week of May.
At least I'll have them before towing the 26-foot camper off into the sunset for a week of badly-needed vacation in early June.
