tips on changing i c m
Im hunting for tips on changing my ignition control module, I lost all spark in an instant. I was looking through the book and its pretty bland on directions and instructions, Ive been driving carb rigs for ever, and everything is simplified, Any tips will help a ton thanks
Just a basic unplug it, unbolt it using a 5.5mm thin walled deep socket (auto zone sells em)...coat the new units back plate with heat transfer paste, reinstall. Keep in mind that your ignition failure could be the distributor or something else. Search PIP, ICM, TFI, for some more info
What year/model/engine is your truck? Early models had the ICM on the side of the distributor. Later models moved the ICM to a heat sink on the driver side inner fender near the hood hinge.
Either way you will need a thin wall socket to remove the hold down bolts. IIRC it's a 5.5MM.

From this diagram I would say your ignition module is on the driver side inner fender:

Here is a photo of what it looks like mounted in it's heatsink:

Make sure the replacement ICM is gray in color. If you have a black one, take it back it's the wrong one for your truck. As stated in a previous post make sure you use a good amount of heat sink compound on the back when you install it.
