The funny thing is that there is nothing Dodge about the Cummins engine just like the Navistars that Ford used for 25 years aren't Fords and the Caterpillar in my Kenworth isn't made by KW. In fact Ford installed thousands of 12 and 24 valve 5.9's in medium duty trucks for several years and used Big Cams, L10's, M and N series Cummins engines (as well as Cats and Detroits) in heavy trucks all the way back to the 70's.

I put a 12 valve in my highboy recently and it was a very simple swap. I used a ZF5 from an early 90's Ford, fabbed up some mounts, hooked up some wires, and had the spouts on the radiator swapped from side to side. I also installed an intercooler and made custom tubes from the turbo to the IC then from the IC to the intake horn. Another thing to deal with is the clutch linkage. I used the 90's hydraulic setup while some guys have made the original mechanical linkage work. It can be intimidating to sort through all the info on the subject but when it comes down to the actual swap its not bad. Mine took six weeks of weekends and an occasional evening after work, basically working solo. It turned out to be an absolute beast that gets 20 MPG.

I've painted the valve covers since the photos.

Like I said, it was a quick job. It's nothing like Chasetruck's or HRDRKIN's. I have to do all that kind of work outside in the dirt so my welds are all flux core and stick. I don't have one a them fancy plasma cutters so I use an oxy acetylene axe. However, I do make sure everything is safe and solid, Chase can attest to that. Maybe even over kill. For example, the engine mounts are made from 5/16" T1 steel from some big truck frame scraps I keep around. That truck is my daily driver so the swap had to be fast and reliable. It worked out great and I can let mama drive it when I need her crewcab to wheel the kids around without worrying about her being stuck on the side of the road like I did with the tired big block.

Oh ive seen plenty break, been in two when theyve broke in fact. One dropped the crank through the oil pan, and the other flung a couple rods and broke the crank. But all in all theyre good engines. The two i spoke of were both decompressed running about 60lbs of boost and making around 600-700hp. But they are good engines, reliable, easy to work on, and have a huge aftermarket. A local round here has a 24v in a 76 hi-boy, has around 100k on it since the swap, so around 340 on the truck and 260 on the engine, or so he claims. Never had a problem with it, gets 22-23mpg and about 17 with the horse trailer.

Looks like I missed a bit while being gone for the weekend. I have a lot to respond to - especially one over zealous fool. Yup - see where I went with that????

Im allowed a opinion just like everyone else and my opinion is Cummins and Dodges are junk.
Cummins might be good in a tractor ...............

So take a chill pill and keep out of my posts and face , Ive had issues with you and your know it all attitude before.
What does how many Ford you've owned have to do with my knowledge??? Nothing!
Now what does your over opinionated post that I replied to have to do with this thread - a lot. What did it contribute though - NOTHING, aside from a major side track!
Good for you - you gave me negative rep for calling you out on a BS, non helpful post. I gave you neg. rep as well and would really hope others here reading your BS post would do the same. Maybe that way you'll get the hint that you're the one in the wrong - not me.
The again maybe all the posts of other people here backing me up may do that. I doubt it, but I can hope

Yes you're allowed to have your opinion, but like MANY have said here - what's the point of blasting that at a thread where a guy asked a specific question about it??? It's one of those - if you don't like it then just move on type deals.
And this leads me to the keeping out of your posts & your face. Well, you're the one that flapped your gums here 1st spewing BS, so I merely replied (adding a helpful link this time - aside from the help I offered earlier).

OK moving on...

Exactly!

I agree - on all parts - meaning the no flowerpoke motors for me AND the to each his own. BUT, when the "to each his own" comes in the way of an un-need/unhelpful opinion gets in the way a bit and should be left out...

I didn't get "uppity" because of your opinion. I got "uppity" at the way you burst into the thread spewing BS that doesn't in any way, shape or form contribute to the thread or help answer a legitimate question.
See the quote below, or pretty much any other post in this thread aside from yours as to why I got "uppity."

Now, 78f250dangerranger - sorry for the major side track, but you do have a wealth of knowledgable people here in this thread waiting to answer any more questions you may have. Heck - I looked at Scot's thread for inspiration when I started my build & I've asked him many questions in the past - all of which he has been helpful in answering.
I've seen Fordwoth's swap in person and it's nicely done as well. Not as "fru-fru" pretty as my junk when it comes to fab, but it by NO MEANS needs to be - I'm just picky. He's helped me with stuff I've been stuck on, just like i try and help with any questions he has that he asks me about.

That is what we are about here - not blindly bashing for no reason like some seem to do!

Now carry on with your want to do this!

Here's some insparation that it is NOT blasphemy to do this!
This is the ID plate on the Cummins motor. The one in my truck looks just like this but in the "manufactered FOR" part it says Dodge. Not a dodge part at all...

Just noticed that r-tard dropped my rep for havin a brain.. re-checked the thread only to find what i was afraid of.. it didnt go anywhere.

Since the useful part of this thread is well.. not useful.. Heres some advice Vin. Go find a forum like rangerstation, oilburners or powerstroke nation to **** all over the boards, they dont mind it, in fact, it seems like they encourage it. However here is another thing, most people on this forum are average decent people either looking to give help or recieve it. You clearly dont belong here, you didnt attribute a SINGLE thing to this thread other than accomplishing to derail it and discourage the OP. You want to start the bitch process ill finish it, i am going to write the mods and tell them what happened, im sure i will have no problem finding people to back it up. A more direct and productive procedure than whining on someones rep boards and then bragging about it in a engine swap thread. Shame you dont live close by i could help you with that attitude problem of yours.

The a-hole got me too. Oh well - just part of being on an open forum that anyone is free to sign up for. Too bad tools like him can sometimes give the place a bad name...

We did our best to encourage the OP to do what he wishes with HIS truck & we'll certainly be here to help if he does choose to move forward with it

I drive a 08 single cab 1ton cab and chassis dodge with the 6.7 cummins and automatic 6 days a week with a 48ft gooseneck behind it. Egr deleted and all that fun stuff and it has made me fall in love with cummins. I can't tell you exact milage because I haul such a variety of loads but it gets terrific fuel milage. My boss has a 03 1ton with the 5.9 and 6 speed manual. Its got a short time before it hits 600,000 miles and I'm not bullspittin. I myself will be doing a cummins swap in my truck as well. Hammer down sir and fill that bay up with cummins
