i bought a 2004 5150 5.4 about a week ago and it has been ideling ruff and i dont think it has the power that 5.4 should (slugish) i took it the shop to put the code reader on it and it read bank 1 knock sensor, would this make my truck run like crap, please help, im new to this site, thanks
The knock sensor detects predetonation if any exists and can adjust the timing slightly (1 or 2 degrees usually) to prevent the knock or ping. It is meant to slightly adjust for the difference in fuel qualities and burn rates, etc. If a sensor were to go bad, I could understand some ill affects.
The sensors are in the valley between the heads.
1. Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to ENGINE - 5.4L (3V) article.
2. Disconnect the knock sensor (KS) electrical connectors.
3. Remove the bolts and the 2 KS.
To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
I'm still learning to grab information from my factory manual in my computer.
