transmission help

Hello fellow truck people,

Ive got a 93 F150 that i got a really good deal on. I only had to do some motor work.

Anyways, I pulled the motor with no problems, did the word that had to be done to it and got it set back into place. Now the problem i'm running into is the transmission is not mating up with the motor, there is ~1.5" of space between the two and it's rather annoying.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions of what I should try doing. I'm almost to the point of just dropping the transmission, moving it forward and then lifting it back up. I don't know if that would be smart and too much work.

I've got the front and rear drive lines disconnected already as I wanted to make sure those werent causing any issues, but it seems no matter what I try the transmission just will not budge.

Thanks for any advice.

your going to have to pick up the front end of the tranny at the same time your putting the engine in , the 2 should be mated before you set the engine down in the mounts !
is your tranny mount broken and causing the tranny to move back some ?

As far as I can see the tranny mount is not broken. when i did get the truck, the mount wasn't hooked up properly. the previous owner only had 1 bolt holding it on on the outer mount side (passenger side).

With the transmission back that 2 inches though, the motor will not be able to mate with it correctly unless I can get it moved forward the correct amount. Otherwise i'm going to be in the same boat i'm currently in.

I'm almost wondering if it would be easier to pull the motor and tranny and hook them together then install. But i don't know for sure.

*edit*

Another thought i had was longer bolts....what if i was to get some longer bolts, and just use those for pulling the engine and transmission together. While this does seem like a bad idea, given the fact that I could potentially pull the threads from the engine block...it's just a thought I had

If it's an automatic, make sure the converter is engaged with the pump in the front of the tranny. If it's a manual the clutch mite not be centered correctly.Do this via the pilot shaft.I've done a few auto trannys where the converter slipped out of the pump and caused this similar situation, not to mention a few choice words that I don't use anymore.
