what year is the engine?
I have a 1978 F100 2wd, with a 300 six cyl.
it had the emission pipe going from cylinder to cylinder. (it was all rusted to hell, so i plugged them)
I am swapping the engine this week end. the one i got, i have no idea which year, it look just the same, minus those hole for the emission.
how do i find out, which year?? (if number dummy is reading this, I have not figure out yet, how to send a msg directly to you)
I am sure there is a number somewhere, i just need to know where to look, and what to look for.
that engine came with a T-19 tranny,

The casting number is the date for the mold. That will only give you an idea when the first bolck was cast, not the last block. Unlike GM, Ford doesn't stamp any numbers that will let you know exactly what year the engine is or what it was originally in.

a lot of times you can id a motor by some of the bracket or pulley part numbers. as an example a 1970 351 c may have a doob-**** for a bracket part number that would make it a torino motor if it had a dooz part number it would be a 1970 mustang motor. it really depends on how bad you want to know what it is. some of the restorations i get in to are concourse correct and that part number means everything. there should be a partial vin stamped on it too back by the transmission and a lot of times that helps id one.
