Well, I have a 17 yr daughter who started driving 4 months ago so I spent the day trying to put her Mazda 2300 Pick-up back together after the crash instead of doing mods to my truck like I planned. ARGH Pulled the bumper and radiator structure and grill back out with chains and my truck, straightend the hood and hinges best I could, replaced radiator, fan belt, hoses, both broken motor mounts, and oil filter. It's not pretty but it's running again.
While waiting for some parts to come in from a warehouse to the local parts store I decided to put the new Superwinch hubs on my truck.
Seem like they are well built but they are way to shallow for my center caps. The caps are about 2 inches taller than the hubs leaving a big gap for mud, dirt and the like to fill the cap.
Did I get the wrong ones?? Does Superwinch make a tall model (never saw them advertised). When I ordered them they were described as fitting a 2000 Super Duty. Do I need to look for shorter center caps or just send these back and get Warn hubs.
I think most aftermarket hubs are short. My Milemarkers are shorter than the factory locking hubs. I have aftermarket wheels so the cap makes no difference to me, but I know the hubs were inset on my factory wheels/caps.
I got Warn hubs for mine and they too are shorter than the stock hubs but I have aftermarket wheels so the caps are shorter than the stock ones so it looks good
The '05 center caps on earlier wheels look great and really fix this problem. My only objection to the Superwinch hubs is that they are a little hard to grasp and turn - but for the price/performance, I'm completely pleased with them.
there is a thread on here about how to cut your factory hub covers down so they fit flush. i tried to search for it but i couldnt find it, ive read it about 6 to 8 months ago and i was going to do it to my truck but i never found it again wwaayy too many post since then and i hate the search engine on here i think it sucks. But you basicaslly pull the metal clips out of the hub cover, use a band saw or hack saw, etc cut one inch from the hub push the metal clips back in and they you go, twenty minuts later you have flush fitting covers that match unlike the 2005 hub covers i might add.
