chainsaw suggestions

Did a search but it was from 2009. I'm sure models have been discontinued, made with more plastic etc. since then. Just looking for the pros and cons. Never bought one before but have used friends'. Buying at Home Depot, Lowes, or Sears o.k., or go with a brand name dealer, the kinds to run away from etc. I KNOW THERE ARE GOING TO BE STRONG OPINIONS. Going to be used mainly for storm clean up and not cutting anything huge and I don't need it to cut firewood. Thank for all the knowledge that is going to stack up!

Stay with a chainsaw/small engine dealer. If a problem arises lowes cant help you! Stihl ms290 or Husqvarna (I think) 055. These are the big brands (and rightfully so). You cant go wrong with Stihl or Husqy.

Thanks guys. My quick research showed Stihl or Husqy is the way to go. Now just to figure out what model.

How much use do you have for it? How big of trees are you expecting too cut? I run a MS460 stihl, but I am cutting a couple triaxle loads of firewood a yr. How fast do you want the job's done?

STIHL

Buy from a licensed Stihl dealer you get what you pay for. I would suggest MS 261 (Just remember it is like a truck you will never wish you had less saw)

I would like to add, a sharp chain is safer than a dull chain, if you have ever been cut buy a chainsaw, you know the value of chaps, and make sure you are aware of your surrounding's.

Cut my leg with a saw (no chaps) 1/4in wide 1/2in deep. Takes forever too heel and hurts like hell.

Stihl does separate into homeowner and pro these days. Homeowner versions are still good.

I have an MS 270 that works pretty well. I don't like it as well as my old 026, but I wrecked that ( entirely my fault). The 270 is growing on me.

Service story -- I had it for a couple of years and it wouldn't start. Took it in, and they replaced the ignition module. Here's the good part, they checked and it was on some sort of a recall list, so the repair was $19. And this wasn't the dealer that I bought it from.

Another vote for Stihl, my first saw was a Poulan 30 years ago and ran until last year so I replaced it with another one (Poulan) only to find out they are nothing but junk now. I went to a Stihl dealer and bought the 70 model and absolutly love it great saw and hope to have it 30 years.

My Husky 040 starts easily, after sitting for 2 years. Great saw. But if I were shopping today, the Stihl might win me over. Can't go wrong with either one.
