computer problems

I swap a 351 from a 94 f150 in to my 89 F150 4wd. my trtuck had a 302. Now im trying to find out if I need to change the computer out. If so could i get away using the one from the 94 in my truck. Any help would be great.

What trans does your '89 have?

A '94 F150 will have one of the computer controlled auto transmissions in it(most likely) and it's not likely your '89 does so the '94 computer won't be of any use to you. You need a 5.8 computer from an earlier truck with either a C6(3spd) auto or manual trans, and hopefully you did not install the flywheel/flexplate that came with the 5.8 or used the one from your 5.0, because neither of these are correct for the 5.8 in your truck and if you have an AOD you will destroy the transmission the first time you fire it.

You may have bigger issues on your hands now. As Paul stated earlier, you cannot use an E4OD flexplate with an AOD transmission. Your torque converter is now pushed back too far, it may be rubbing on the front pump housing inside the transmission.

Thanks for the help guys. I was not able to find a ecm for the truck. Im going to be pulling this motor out and going back to a 302. I just picket one up for 150 bucks from the local salvage company.

stop, just get a flexplate from an 88 crown victoria running a 5.8/aod they are $60 new at autozone.

then go to the pick N pull and get a 5.8/C6 computer from any bronco/f150/f250/f350 from 88-91 and your done.
