I have a 92 Bronco with a blown up 351/AOD. I got an 87 F150 with a 302/ automatic trans, unsure which trans. I swapped the engines out and keeped the AOD, have everyting finished. My question is will the 87 F150 computer work, or will I need a different one? If I need a different one what year and vehicle would have what I'm looking for?
Thanks for any advice and this is a great site, has been a big help.
Your 92 bronco computer won't run your 5.0? Both are EEC-IV and the trannys are not computer controlled. Maybe injector pulses are different... I'm pretty sure you can swap in the 5.o eec and see what happens. Both engines were speed density so It should work.
If not, well hopefully you can find your answer here. http://fordfuelinjection.com/index.php?p=17
It lists several 5.0/AOD computers. Oddly , it lists no 5.8's with AOD...go figure.
If you kept the transmission with the 302, run the 302 computer. It's wired the same, the only differences are that there is no knock sensor, no power steering pressure switch, and the 302 doesn't use a computer controlled canister purge valve. In 92, the transmission was probably computer controlled, which will throw codes with that AOD in there. The 302 computer will be better for running the 302 anyway.
